Teen Shot Outside Brooklyn School Amid Ongoing Crime Concerns

BROOKLYN: A 17-year-old was shot in the stomach Thursday morning near multiple schools in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, police report. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Park Avenue near North Oxford Street, coinciding with students’ return from winter break.

The wounded teen sought help in the lobby of Dr. Susan S. McKinney Secondary School of the Arts, prompting a brief shelter-in-place, which has since been lifted. The victim is now in stable condition at New York-Presbyterian Methodist Hospital.

While the shooting occurred off campus, the Department of Education condemned the violence, praising staff and NYPD School Safety Agents for their quick response. Additional support, including social workers, is being directed to the school.

This alarming act of violence highlights ongoing safety concerns in communities where crime remains a pressing issue. Parents and residents continue to call for stronger measures to ensure the protection of students and families.
