USPS Worker Fatally Stabbed in Harlem Over Line Dispute

MANHATTAN: A routine sandwich order turned deadly Thursday when Ray Hodge, a 36-year-old USPS worker, was fatally stabbed inside a Harlem deli. The incident unfolded on Lenox Avenue as Hodge, waiting to order, became embroiled in a heated argument with Jaia Cruz, 24, over who was first in line. Cruz allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed him in the stomach.

Police responded to the scene at 2:30 p.m., finding Hodge with multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to a hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries. Cruz has since been arrested and charged with murder.

The brazen attack highlights the city’s escalating safety concerns. Witnesses expressed fear and frustration, with one Harlem resident saying, “It’s just so unfortunate this is happening in New York City. The safety issues here are a real problem.”

USPS confirmed Hodge’s role as a letter carrier in Manhattan, issuing a statement emphasizing the agency’s commitment to employee safety. A knife was recovered at the scene as authorities continue investigating the altercation.

Local activist Dr. Iesha Sekou comforted Hodge’s grieving mother, underscoring the devastating impact of senseless violence on families and communities. New Yorkers, already wary of rising crime, are left shaken by yet another act of unchecked brutality.
