STATEN ISLAND: Police are investigating a pair of carjackings reported less than 24 hours apart in a commercial section of New Dorp.
At around 5 p.m. Friday, a male suspect approached an Infiniti G37 sitting idle outside a Northfield Bank, located in a shopping center on the 2700 block of Hylan Boulevard, an NYPD spokeswoman said Sunday. The perpetrator forced a 75-year-old woman out of the car, resulting in minor injuries, and fled in an unknown direction, police said.
The suspect is described by police as a male Hispanic with a light complexion, standing about 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black baseball hat, black shorts and a black shirt, according to police.
Less than 24 hours later, a male suspect brandished a knife while forcing a 54-year-old woman out of a white BMW 3 series in the parking lot of a CVS on the 2600 block of Hylan Boulevard. That incident was reported at around 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the victim sustained minor injuries after being shoved to the ground.
The suspect in that incident was described by police as a male Hispanic with a light complexion, standing about 5 feet, 11 inches tall with a heavyset build. He was last seen wearing a gray baseball hat, gray shorts and a white T-shirt, police said.
The vehicle was driven southbound on Hylan Boulevard before it apparently was abandoned and recovered by police, a different NYPD spokeswoman said Saturday.
NYPD helicopters were seen hovering overhead, while K-9 officers were dispatched to investigate the vehicle.
Several police officers could be seen interviewing the victim and other individuals outside of the CVS.
No injuries were reported, police said.
Corporeal Coley, a security supervisor for Kimco Realty, told the Advance/SILive.com that he was exiting the ShopRite across The Boulevard parking lot when he saw police arrive and quickly take off on foot toward the direction of the fleeing vehicle.
AN ONGOING ISSUE

On June 12, a 2007 black infinity was stolen from outside a deli on Port Richmond Avenue in Port Richmond. In that instance, a struggle ensued with the thief and the victim was shot in the leg, police said.
On April 9, an Eltingville man was arrested in connection with a 2021 carjacking during which, police allege, he threatened a 71-year-old victim with a knife before biting the man’s hand.
On April 29, an Amazon delivery driver was taken for his work vehicle after an individual jumped in the passenger seat and simply took off. The driver was able to escape without injury.
