QUEENS: A 46-year-old man was found guilty of stabbing another man in the face whose car was hit by the defendant’s car door in November 2020, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Thursday.
Robert Finley, of Brooklyn, was found guilty late Wednesday of first-degree assault. He now faces up to 25 years in prison.
“A minor vehicle collision escalated to brutal violence when the defendant stabbed the victim in the face as he attempted to inspect the inconsequential damage,” Katz said in a statement.
She added, “Following a two-week-long trial, a jury has determined that that the defendant is guilty of assault in the first degree. We hope this verdict provides the victim with some measure of peace as he continues to recover from sustained injuries.”
According to trial records, the victim was driving past Finley’s car near Liverpool Street and 109th Avenue in Queens when Finley allegedly opened his car door and struck the victim’s car.
The victim pulled over and got out of his car to inspect the damage. Katz said that’s when Finley approached with a glass bottle and slammed the bottle on the man’s head before using broken glass shards to stab the victim in the cheek and mouth.
Finley then turned around and got back into his vehicle and fled the scene.
The assault left the victim with deep lacerations to his face that required around 150 stitches, and he still has the scars on his face, Katz added.
